St Peters Petersham

St Peter's church, Petersham

This modest and compact new instrument has tracker-action with mechanical drawstops, and comprises 16 registers, plus two separated from compound stops with a ‘half-draw’ facility. The specification is ingeniously arranged over three manuals, two of which are separately enclosed in swell boxes.

The instrument replaces a much rebuilt Victorian organ of inferior quality and uninspiring appearance, in very sensitive surroundings where the AIOA adviser’s task alongside an experienced and perceptive director of music, was as much concerned with architectural and diplomatic issues as with the organ itself. The outcome, visually and in sound, has satisfied those who originally had doubts in equal measure to those who were always enthusiastic.
