Little St Mary Cambbridge

Little St Mary, Cambridge

This new 22-stop tracker action organ, housed partly within casework designed in 1978 by Lawrence Bond for the previous instrument, overcame considerable challenges. The organ was required to serve the thriving choral tradition of the parish as convincingly as the wider repertoire, but both space and funds imposed significant limitations.

The Great Organ and part of the Pedal are within the case, with the Swell and remaining Pedal pipes behind, speaking through the tracery of a former window. Very close co-operation between the musical team at the church, the organbuilder and the AIOA adviser, in particular on the technical aspects of layout, pipe scaling and wind pressures, have resulted in an entirely successful and extremely versatile outcome.
