St George's Penang

Saint George, Georgetown, Penang

An entirely new two-manual mechanical action instrument exported by a British builder for an eighteenth-century style church in a former colonial town in Malaysia. The previous 1899 Forster & Andrews organ was vandalised by looters under Japanese occupation during World War II.

The organ was the gift of a private donor who required detailed monitoring of the organ builders’ progress and payment schedule.

An AIOA advisor not only supervised the procurement process and payments, but also inaugurated the instrument and spent several sessions teaching local organists how to use it in a variety of musical contexts.
